You probably haven’t heard of these holidays, for the simple fact that they don’t exist…yet. But they could for the innovative business person who is willing to create a holiday when no other holiday seems right for their company.

A Little Break

All of the major holidays fall during specific times, but there are months that go by when there are no holidays to celebrate. People who are working for forty hours a week or more are always looking for a reason to celebrate being alive, and creating a holiday is the opportune way to give them something fun and enjoyable to celebrate while promoting your company at the same time!

Choosing the Holiday

You’ve decided to create a holiday, but what should the holiday be? First, look at the products that your company sells. You will want whatever holiday you create to have something to do with your product line.

For instance, if you want to promote a new line of ink pens that your company is selling, why not create a holiday like National Sign Your Name Day? Or if you are trying to get interest in your cosmetics line, how about creating Pamper Yourself Day? It can be easy and fun to come up with a holiday once you have taken a look at your goals.

Inviting the Public In

Once you’ve chosen a date, start planning the day! You need press releases, a proclamation from the mayor if possible, and promotional items.

Contact the local radio station and tell them about all of the events that you are going to be offering people for free, and ask your local newspaper if they feel that it is a story worth covering.

Word of mouth also goes a long way, so make sure that your customers are aware of the fun, activities, and great deals that are planned during your special holiday.

Events can be helpful too. For example, if you’re trying to promote National Eat Some Sausage Day, have a taste-test available at a few different major sites in the city. For Sign Your Name Day, offer pens to local businesses with your name and logo printed on them.

Pamper Yourself Day? Why not set up a mini-spa right inside of your store and offer one free treatment, such as a manicure, pedicure, or makeover, for every woman who walks in the doors? You can also offer huge deals on your merchandise. This will not only help the public to remember you, but to remember your company in a good way.
