The FUD Factor, Sell Like A Winner: Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt

The world of sales can often be very daunting - and is most certainly not for the faint-hearted. The FUD factor (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) comes into play when it’s time to close the sale. No matter how experienced you are, every business owner or salesperson will need to conquer the FUD factor in order to close the deal and make a profit.

The FUD factor is something that every small business owner or salesperson has to deal with. Generally, there is some element of fear that goes along with making a sale, although it usually comes down to a matter of degrees.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to know and understand the details of the products you’re selling. If you cannot explain how something works and why a potential customer should buy it, then you cannot effectively sell it. Knowing your product gives you the confidence to talk about it to any audience. When you display confidence in your product line, then others will have confidence in you.

When speaking with your customers, be sure to maintain good eye contact. Be true to your word, which means that only promise those things that you can actually deliver. Meet your deadlines and return phone calls promptly.

All of these things demonstrate to your customers that you are reliable and trustworthy.

Observe Your Customers

Be mindful of your customers’ spending and buying habits. Get to know each client personally. Knowing their personalities will make you adept at suggesting products for them in the future. You will also be able to anticipate their needs, which translates into great customer service.

Pay particularly close attention to your body language. Your body language should always be positive. Walk tall and with confidence. Dress professionally and speak clearly. You want to exude positive energy – because doing this will help customers to feel comfortable and relaxed around you.

Be available to answer questions even when they are not directly related to your line of work.

Focus On Your Work

You will want to avoid distractions, because they cause you to lose focus. In the world of sales, you always need to be at the top of your game to seek out and close the sale. You can play after work – but be careful not to mix the two. Work hard and you will be rewarded for your efforts. You don’t want your personal time to cross over into your workday.

Realize that mistakes will happen; you just have to learn from them. Don’t be afraid to get out there and try something new; you will never know what works until you try. Stay positive and start every day with a clear head, so you can remain focused on the tasks ahead of you.

You need to believe in yourself and always put your best foot forward. Think positive and put those negative thoughts or feelings out of your head.

Think Like a Winner

People can see confidence a mile away. Walk, talk, and think like a winner. If you can do that, then you will banish the FUD factor forever. Think of work as fun, and your sales will reflect that as well.

The most successful salespeople are those who are able to conquer their fears and make the absolute most of entire sales experience.
