Use Google Blended Search Results to Propel Your Business Online

Search engine optimization is a frequent topic for small business marketing. Most SEO advice is written about keeping your website optimized for Google since it is the reigning king of search engines with a 60% market share.

However, Google doesn’t just show focused or “vertical” search results any longer. Rather, Google has developed its search engine to display universal or “blended” results from a search topic.

What does blended search results mean? In today’s search results, Google looks at the universal picture and not just your website. Therefore, while your website should indeed be primed for search results, there are other online areas you should prepare for Google search results. Here is a list:

Website – At the top of the list is your small business website. Make sure employ all SEO tactics shown on our other posts.

Blog – Google now has a blog search engine focused on articles and posts made from professional and personal blogs. Keep your business blog updated regularly with important topics and use those keywords to get it noticed by Google.

Product – Google also has a product search, albeit still in beta. This is where online consumers can search for specific products and show results based on the online seller, price, and reviews.

News – Keep your business in the news by publishing press releases and doing interviews for news articles. You can also write your own feature articles and post on your blog and other article database services.

Local/Maps – Google also shows maps and listings of businesses for specific products and keywords based on a searcher’s location. Be sure you get your free Google Maps listing at places.google.com/business.

Images – Google also shows results with specific images. You can get more visibility on search results if you post great photos and images of specific products. Post them on your website and on other photo sites like Flickr. Be sure you use meta tags to describe your images with keywords.

Video – Video has also become an important search result. Take the time to produce short videos of your products or services, or even about your business. Upload them to YouTube. The more videos you produce, the more likely they may end up in a blended search result from Google.
