Focus Business Management: Keeping Focused on Your Work

Tips for avoiding distractions while working

Many people interrupt themselves while working. A phone call reminds you of someone else you should call.

You need to set up your work environment to help you stay focused on the job at hand. Put temptation out of sight. Close the door. Soundproof your office. Put away books and magazines.

The ability to maintain deep concentration can safeguard you from almost any interruption. Following are some ideas on how to improve your concentration:

– Be excited about the work you are doing. Become involved in mastering your work, taking it to its limits, finding a new or better way of doing it. Make your work come alive. See it in relation to the big picture, to your long-term goals.

– Keep thinking about your immediate goal. Sift out everything that doesn’t relate to your goal. Take it easy, don’t push. The most productive use of your time is a consistent, steady effort. Trying to rush or do everything at once will only slow you down in the long run or exhaust you.

– Let your subconscious work for you. Often ideas and solutions will appear to come from nowhere. This is the key to how people are able to take productive breaks while eating lunch or traveling.
