Employee Recognition Ideas

Employee Recognition Ideas

Some small business owners underestimate the power and importance of employee recognition.

Such recognition does not have to include a raise or other monetary awards. Instead, just knowing that their good work is recognized is all many employees need in order to feel appreciated.

Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Meetings

Depending on your type of business, employee recognition meetings could be a great tool for you.

You could hold the meetings monthly, or less often depending on your needs. In the meeting, recognition could be made to the top sellers, as well as employees who have reached some sort of milestones, such as anniversaries with the company.

Memos

When an employee does an exceptional job, consider sending out a memo to everyone describing the efforts of the employee and expressing your gratitude for a job well done.

Be sure to let the employee know that a copy of the memo will go into his file and will be reviewed when it is time for his yearly appraisal.

Employee of the Month

Instituting an employee of the month award is a way to remind employees that their good work is being noticed all year long.

This award is particularly useful for employees who do not have set goals. While a salesperson can look at a stats sheet and know they did a great job, administrative workers cannot.

Offering an employee of the month award gives all workers a chance to be recognized for their promptness, positive attitude and willingness to be a team player.

Obviously, not all of these ideas are going to be right for every business. The point is not so much what you do, but just that you do something to recognize the hard work of your employees.
