Where You Should Look for Your Top Talent

Small businesses are hiring, says a new economic report published by Washington. Main Street is the biggest employer in the US, and many small businesses are blazing the path to better economic times.

If your business is fortunate enough to need growth positions, or even just a new management replacement, you need to know where to look to find the best qualified talent. Here are the top six places you should consider looking for top talent.

  1. Employee Referrals

Networking is by far the best way to find a job and to find a job candidate. Tell your employees when you are hiring. This is where you can secure some good inside information and recommendations on new job candidates. Ask them to pass around the good news about your company to their friends, families, and acquaintances. Offer a reward when a good candidate is hired through a referral.

  2. Trade Magazines

Put an ad in an industry trade magazine. This is the type of media your dream candidate reads to find his or her new job. Where better to find a new hire than within your own industry?

  3. Your Network

Don’t forget to mention to your business networking contacts that you’re hiring. They may know someone who is qualified and looking for work. Or they may be interested themselves to join your growing business!

  4. Online Job Boards

People in your town are looking for work. Be sure you let them know that you’re hiring with ads in local boards such as Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, and even Craigslist.com.

  5. Your Website

Don’t forget that people may be looking at your website to see if you are hiring. Be sure you have an employment opportunities section in your website where you can list your open positions. Even if you don’t have a current job opening, you can still invite readers to send resumes to keep on file in the event you are hiring soon.

  6. Social Media

Your customers may be your next employee! Be sure you use your social media accounts to announce job openings. Post it on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to let the world know you need qualified talent.
