Does Your Product Need a Package Renovation?

Whether it is boxed, shrink wrapped simply wrapped in plastic, the total appearance of your product packaging carries a great weight to buyer attractiveness. How do you know if it’s time for a packaging renovation?

Length of Time Since Last Packaging Change

You may now have an attractive packaging for your business product(s). However, no matter how attractive your packaging is, it can get stale after a certain length of time. Even major manufacturers like Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & Gamble, and national restaurant chains change their packaging or name logo every few years to keep it fresh in the minds of consumers.

If you are experiencing a lag in sales over the last year or so, take some time to re-think your packaging. You may find it’s time for a new design.

Lackluster Packaging

Do you use a generic cardboard box with a simple stick-on label as your packaging? If your generic packaging was shelved next to a similar product with eye-catching colors, bold words, and attractive photos or images, which one do you think consumers will look at first?

It is absolutely necessary to attract your target consumer with your packaging. With retail, a “book judged by its cover” is the selling mantra, and you must make that first impression with your packaging in order to secure the first step in making sales.

Color Scheme Needs to Match Your Business

Your business branding is an important part of your reputation, not to mention your sales. Does your packaging reflect your business brand? When you buy laundry detergent, you undoubtedly know what the brand is by the coloring of the package and logo. When you shop the cereal aisle for Raisin Bran, you can spot it halfway down the aisle from the packaging color.

If your packaging is not reflective of your brand or logo, it is definitely time to re-work the packaging design to bring out your business color theme.
