The Importance of a Good Logo

The Importance of a Good Logo

Many small businesses have a logo, but few have spent the time and money to develop a good one.

No one is implying that your logo has to compete with such well-known icons as Nike and Dell, but you do want your logo to meet certain criteria.

Logo Considerations

Your logo should be simple enough to be used in a variety of ways, but it should also be memorable. Ideally, in your customer’s minds, your logo will be synonymous with your business as a whole.

Before having a logo developed, you will need to list all of the ways in which you plan to use that logo. One small business owner faced a challenge when developing her logo.

She needed to use it as the title on the cover of a regional magazine, but she also wanted to be able to use it on letterhead, business cards and for other printed and online materials.

Luckily, she was working with a very talented designer who suggested she use the entire logo for the magazine cover and a very recognizable snippet of the logo for other uses.

It worked out perfectly and both the full logo and the snippet are easily recognizable by her customers.

Get Professional Help

Some small business owners design their own logos, but unless you are graphic artist, this isn’t a good idea. You need your logo to reflect the quality and professionalism of your business.

A logo designed by someone who doesn’t possess artistic talent usually comes off looking sort of homemade.

You can have a logo professionally designed starting at around $150. It’s a small expense for an image that will represent your business for years to come.
