Trying to stay focused with other household activities around you can be trying, but with a few key strategies in place, you'll be able to keep your focus and get through the workday with ease.

Working from home carries a lot of perks. You can wear what you want, have access to your entire kitchen at all hours of the day, don’t have to attend in-person meetings, and can decide that a mid-day shower is just what you need.

That being said, it comes with its own set of challenges as well, especially when you’re not the only one at home. Trying to stay focused with other household activities around you can be trying, but with a few key strategies in place, you’ll be able to keep your focus and get through the workday with ease.

1. Rely on Sound-Reducing Headphones

Many headphones today come with sound reduction technology, which can help quiet the outside world and allow you to focus more on the work in front of you.

AirPods are the most popular option with this feature, so investing in a pair of your own would be smart. But with other people in your house, there’s a good chance that yours isn’t the only pair of AirPods lying around. Ensure no one else commandeers yours when you need them most with a stylish airpod pro case, and there will be no excuses if they go missing.

2. Set “Office Hours”

Setting office hours during which you focus on your work can be helpful for other family members in the house.

If you can set the expectation with your spouse and children that you aren’t to be bothered between 10 am and 4 pm, you can get more work done during that time and make the most of your workday.

3. Schedule Breaks

Scheduling breaks is essential, not only for your focus but also to give others in the house a chance to ask you any questions or have a quick chat between meetings.

These breaks will also reduce the chances of getting an unwelcome intrusion during focus time.

4. Leave Your Phone In Another Room

As weird as it may feel to be without your phone, these little devices are one of the biggest reasons for distraction at work. If you can leave it in another room for at least a few hours at a time, you’ll be able to zone in on the work you’re doing without things like social media notifications stealing your attention away.

5. Create a Morning Routine You Can Stick with

Starting your day when working from home can be challenging, especially when you’re tempted to work from the comfort of your bed, but getting up and performing a daily morning routine can help build solid habits and get you in the right mindset to work.

The Art of WFH

Working from home is excellent in many ways, but it’s not without its challenges.

If you’re trying to get work done amid a busy house, try using these tips to stay focused despite the many distractions around you.
